Agriculture is backbone of Indian economy and will remain so in upcoming years also. Indian industries are largely Agro based hence directly or indirectly about 65-75 Per cent population dependent on Agriculture. But recently up to 2000 there are only government universities imparting Agricultural education, whole lot of students and parents unable to expose this vast scope of Agriculture Science. From 2002 onwards whole lot of new private colleges were opened in India especially in Maharashtra and made available this needful science to rural and untapped urban students. Indian Agriculture is having lot of challenges today never before like uneven monsoon, floods, successive droughts, hail storm, marketing problems and price fluctuations in agriculture commodities addition to this available cultivable land is shrinking for urbanization and developmental projects while the population is increasing with alarming rate so to feed this increasing population we have to grow more with less area as well as process and export excess products along with sustainable use of our limited resources along with environmental safety measures. So this basic sector needs large human resource with advance technical knowledge right from crop production, crop protection, Policy making, farm mechanization, marketing strategies, research and development in crops and processing and value addition in horticultural crops. It has been estimated that jobs in this agricultural and its allied field will be far more than any other industry. Thus, choosing to get an Agriculture Degree can open up a lot of opportunities to students.
